The UNITROL ® 1000 Series is ABB’s brushless excitation system for applications using synchronous machines ranging from 100kVA to 80MVA.
Deployed in 20,000+ installations all over the world, the UNITROL ® 1000 Series applies to power generation plants, marine electrical propulsion and auxiliary supply, diesel electric locomotives, harbor cranes and mining trucks.
In combination with automation and electrical systems, rotating machine control, instrumentation and advanced digital services, ABB’s excitation system constitutes a complete and solid package to serve all power generation facilities.
With A/D and D/A units, the remaining processing is digital, which is not difficult for PLC with information processing capability. Medium and large PLCs have stronger processing power. They can not only add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, but also square root, interpolate, and perform floating-point operations. Some also have PID instructions, which can perform proportional, differential and integral operations on the deviation control, and then generate corresponding output. It can do almost everything that the computer can do.
In this way, it is completely possible to realize analog control with PLC. The unit value of control can be as small as 1/212 of the measurement range value, most of which are also sufficient.
PLC carries out analog control, and there are units combined with A/D and D/A, and PID or fuzzy control algorithm can be used to achieve control, which can achieve high control quality.
The advantage of using PLC to control analog quantity is that the switch quantity can be controlled while the analog quantity is controlled. This advantage is not possessed by other controllers, or the realization of control is not as convenient as PLC.
Of course, if the system is purely analog, the use of PLC may not be as good as the use of regulator in terms of performance-price ratio. This should also be seen.
