The user program is determined by the PLC control object and is prepared by the user according to the control requirements of the object production process. In order to facilitate reading, checking and modification, user programs are generally stored in CMOS static RAM, and lithium batteries are used as backup power to ensure that information will not be lost in case of power failure. In order to prevent interference from damaging the program in RAM, when the user program runs normally and does not need to be changed, it can be solidified in the read-only memory EPROM. Now many PLCs directly use EEPROM as user memory.
Working data is some data that is frequently changed and accessed during PLC operation. It is stored in RAM to meet the requirements of random access. In the working data memory of PLC, there is a storage area for storing input and output relays, auxiliary relays, timers, counters and other logic devices. The status of these devices is determined by the initial setting and operation of the user program. As required, some data will be maintained in its current state by the backup battery in case of power failure. The storage area where data can be saved in case of power failure is called the retention data area.
Since the system program and working data are not directly related to the user, the form and capacity of the memory listed in the PLC product sample or the user manual refer to the user program memory. When the capacity of user memory provided by PLC is not enough, many PLCs also provide memory expansion function.
