Description

The 1756-EWEB is an EtherNet/IP Web Server module that is manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. It is commonly known as an enhanced Web Server module. The Allen-Bradley 1756-EWEB provides access to information stored in the control system with a web browser. The module gives users the ability to monitor or change the data in the control system remotely by using the XML web pages. With the help of the 1756-EWEB EtherNet/IP module, users can communicate with other IP/EtherNet devices through messages. The Web Browser module supports Ethernet devices that are not IP-based but have a socket interface. The module is meant for bridging and routing messages; initiating email messages; creating custom webpages, providing data access to controllers that are in the same chassis as the 1756-EWEB module, etc.

The enhanced web server module provide access to all the pages it generates. For this purpose, users can use a standard web browser. However, for editing or creating data view pages, users need Internet Explorer 5.5 or later because these browsers offer XML support. Users can also view sample code with the Internet Explorer 5.5 or later versions. To use the web server module efficiently, go through the manufacturer’s manual. The 1756-EWEB enhanced Web Server module features a flash file system with 5 MB of space available. The file system stores data views and webpages. Operators can use directories like /user, /user/web, /user/system/configuration, /dataview, and /schema to store different types of data. To install the enhanced Web Server module, users need to align it with a slot inside the 1756 chassis and push it until they hear the snapping sound. Then, connect the 1756-EWEB module to the network with the help of the RJ45 connector and obtain the IP address. If the network has a DHCP server, it will assign a dynamic 4-digit IP address to the module. Go through the EtherNet Web Server Installation Instruction Manual for more details. Users may need the Rockwell Automation BOOTP/DHCP utility to define the IP address.
