In essence, PLC can only recognize machine language. The reason why it can use some mnemonic language, ladder diagram language, flow diagram language, and even high-level language is due to various software developed for using these languages.
Mnemonic language is the most basic and simple PLC language. It is similar to the assembly language of computer, and the instruction system of PLC is expressed in this language. This language only uses text symbols, and the programming tools used are simple, just use a simple programmer. Therefore, most PLCs are equipped with this language.
Ladder diagram language is a graphic language, which uses symbols similar to relay circuit diagram to express the logic relationship of PLC control. This language has a corresponding relationship with the symbol language, which is easy to convert to each other, and is easy for electrical engineers to understand and be familiar with, so it is widely used. Almost all PLCs have developed this language. Because it is expressed in graphics, it is not easy for small programmers to use it. Only programmers with large LCD screen can use it. This language is only used when the computer programs PLC.
The flow chart language is also a graphic language. However, the symbols used are not similar to the symbols of electrical components, but are similar to the flow chart symbols used by computers, so that computer workers can understand and be familiar with them. There is also a one-to-one correspondence between flow chart language and symbol language, but its corresponding symbol language is different from that of ladder diagram. People who are familiar with computers but have not engaged in general electrical work are willing to use this language to program PLC. The F series machine developed by OMRON in Japan uses this language.
Mixed language of ladder diagram and flow diagram. This language uses both ladder diagram and flow diagram to make PLC program structured. It uses the flow chart to divide the PLC program into several structural blocks and normalize the logical relationship between the blocks. Use the ladder diagram to determine the logical relationship between various quantities in the block. This mixed language has different implementation methods, and is mostly used for large PLC programming
High-level language, PLC programming can also use high-level language, such as BASIC, C language, etc. It can be run on DOS or WINDOWS platform. The key is to convert the program written in high-level language into mnemonic language or directly into machine language that can be recognized by PLC. Basically, any high-level language can achieve this transformation. The software for this conversion needs a lot of work and should be developed and provided by relevant manufacturers. At present, many PLC manufacturers have provided it. For example, GE-FANAC PLC provides software that can be programmed in C language.
