Follow these practices at all times:Don’ts1. Surge and noise suppression components used on the D20 and D200 aredesigned to conduct during transients to prevent nuisance operation or damage tointernal components. To ensure shunting of transients from line to ground, theD20’s and D200’s earth ground stud must be connected to a low impedanceground using braided cable or heavy solid copper conductor (12 AWGrecommended). When making ground connections, ensure that all surfaces thatare used for grounding are free of dirt, residue and corrosion. A coating such asglyptol can be used to protect these connections from oxidation and dirt deposits.2. Ensure that cable shields are grounded at either the D20 or D200 auxiliaryground stud or at the field equipment. Do not ground the shields at more thanone point because a potential difference may exist between grounds causingground loops and undesirable noise sources.3. Ensure that all nuts and screws are properly tightened.4. Always replace fuses with the same type and rating used by GE Energy. For fusetypes and ratings, see “Servicing”, page 118.5. When connecting to communications equipment such as modems or radios,always use appropriate surge protectors to protect the communication ports.6. To prevent interference with communications, route all communication cablesaway from power-carrying cables.7. Always fuse-protect field sources.8. Always configure the jumpers in your D20 or D200 prior to connecting field I/O.9. Follow all instructions in this guide as they are presented.10. Do not operate the D20 or D200 if it has been dropped or damaged. Return it toGE Energy for inspections and repair.11. The D20 and D200 power supplies use switching technology. For properoperation, the input voltage must be within specified limits prior to turning onthe D20’s or D200’s power switch.12. Do not apply voltages outside the range of the product specifications. Voltagesoutside the specified range may lead to premature product failure.13. Do not modify the D20 or D200 without prior written authorization form GEEnergy
